5 Top tips to improve your PPC advertising

Here are our top tips for improving your PPC performance and make your budget work harder to get the results you want.

Let’s jump straight into them:

Tip 1 – Track Everything

Don’t just throw money at paid advertising and hope it works. Make sure you are tracking every element so you can understand what is working and what isn’t. Google Adwords provides a wealth of information on which ads are performing the best, to which campaign is generating the highest conversions. When the account has been set up correctly using conversion tracking you can even track button click and when certain pages are reached.

Data is key to making decisions, otherwise its down to assumptions and guesses which is a dangerous path to go down.

Tip 2 – Optimise, optimise, optimise

Don’t sit back or allow your agency to take the easy route of setting it up your PPC campaign and leaving it to plod along. That’s the best way to waste your budget.

Once you have followed step 1, you should have enough data to cut the elements that are not working and split out the areas that are. If a particular ad is performing well, then try a few different versions of copy to split test it.

Tip 3 – Combine PPC with SEO

Organic search marketing or SEO is more effective when working together with paid advertising. By combining efforts on PPC and SEO it can result in your business dominating the top positions of Google by organic listing and paid ads. Users are more likely to visit your website it that’s what the search engines are showing. Google likes you spending money with them and as a result SEO performance can see an increase.

Tip 4 – Optimise landing pages for keywords

When you bid on a keyword, Google wants to know how relevant that is to your business. If the keyword is not mentioned at all on the landing page, then Google will charge you a high cost-per-click. To lower this and improve your “quality score” its best practise to create a highly optimised landing page around the keyword you are targeting and services you offer.

Tip 5 – Use Site Links and Ad extensions

Using site links allows you to expand your advert and call out other key USP’s about your business. These links can be used to entice more users to click on your ad to find out more about your company. By simply adding this, it can improve your click rate dramatically and costs the same as clicking the advert normally.
