Top 5 Social Media Tips for startup companies

Social media can seem like a mind-field when you first start out so I’ve pulled together my top five tips for new startups that should set you down the path to success. Let’s get jump straight into them!

1.Focus your efforts on select networks

Consider which social media platform will be right for your business and the services you offer. Think about your audience and where they likely spend the most time. Then focus your efforts on that social network platform. As a startup company your time is precious and you want to make the biggest impact in one place instead of spreading yourself too thin.

If your targeting teenagers, Snapchat might be a good option but for most companies Facebook and LinkedIn are the best options.

2. Get set up properly

Before uploading any old picture, stop and think about your profile picture selected as this will present your brand and make a good or bad first impression. Ensure the image is high-quality as poor quality images are a big no-no!

3. Make a commitment to social media

Social media takes time and effort, so make sure to set time aside regularly to share content, ask questions and most importantly listen. One great tip is to create a social media calendar and schedule posts in advance to use your time more efficiently.

4. Listen to customers rather than promote

Remember that social media is a conversation, not a one way firing line! Avoid coming across as a cold calling salesman and start listening to your customers and their feedback.

5. Experiment!

Try out different ways to talk to your audience such as using videos to increase engagement. What time of the day are you getting the best engagement for your posts? Experiment with your posts until you discover the mix right for your business as theres no one size that fits all!
